Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 August 2026
This policy explains how Pocket Sounds ("we", "us") handles information in our apps, including Guitarium. We keep it short because we collect very little.
The short version
- No account, no sign-up. You don't give us your name or email to use the app.
- We don't sell your data, and we don't show ads.
- We collect anonymous usage analytics to understand which features help people practice.
- This website sets no cookies and stores nothing about you that outlives the browser tab. You can switch its measurement off below.
- Your practice progress is stored on your device and in your own iCloud. We can't read it.
What we collect
Anonymous usage analytics. We use Google Analytics for Firebase to see how the app is used in aggregate: which drills are practiced, how long sessions last, which tools (tuner, metronome, scales, songs) get used. This includes:
- Usage data: in-app events and interactions (e.g. a drill started, a feature opened), with no personal content.
- A device identifier: a random app-instance ID used to count distinct devices. It is not your name and is not tied to your identity.
- Approximate location: a coarse region (e.g. country/city) inferred from your IP address by the analytics provider. We do not collect precise GPS location.
This data is pseudonymous and is not used to track you across other apps or websites. We do not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA).
What stays on your device
- Microphone (tuner). The tuner listens through your microphone to detect pitch. Audio is processed live on your device and is never recorded, stored, or sent anywhere.
- Practice progress. Your sessions, XP, streaks, and stats are stored on your device and synced through your private iCloud account (Apple CloudKit) so they follow you across your devices. This uses your Apple ID. We have no access to your iCloud data.
- Settings & preferences are stored locally on your device.
Purchases
Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see or store your payment details. Your subscription status is verified on-device via Apple's StoreKit.
This website
pocketsoundapps.com sets no cookies, shows no ads, and contains no third-party tracking or advertising scripts. Two things measure it, both described below.
Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views. It records the page opened, the referring site, and coarse device and country information, all in aggregate, and does not fingerprint your browser.
Our own measurement. We also record a small number of events ourselves, so we can tell which parts of the site are useful: a page being opened, a link being pressed, a section coming into view, and roughly how far down the page you read. Each event is stored with:
- A session identifier: a random value held in your browser's
sessionStoragefor the current tab only. It is deleted when you close the tab, is not a cookie, and cannot connect two visits to each other or connect you to anything outside this site. - Coarse location: the country and region Cloudflare derives from your connection. Your IP address is never stored — it is used to work out the country and then discarded.
- Device type: whether you are on a phone, tablet or desktop, your operating system and browser family, whether the page opened inside another app's built-in browser, and the width of the window. This is read from information your browser sends anyway. We do not combine it into a fingerprint.
- The page path and the referring site's domain. Never the full address you came from, and never anything you typed.
That is the whole list. There is no name, no email, no account, no advertising identifier, and nothing that follows you to another website. The data is stored by us on Cloudflare's infrastructure and is not shared with anyone.
Some links here (the ones under /go/ and /dl/) pass through a short redirect so we can count how often they get used. Those carry no identifier for you.
Our legal basis in the EEA and the UK is legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) in understanding whether our own website works. You can object at any time using the switch below.
Turning website measurement off
The switch below stops this site from recording anything about your visit. It works immediately, applies to this browser, and is remembered until you clear your browser storage. We also honour Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track automatically: if your browser sends either signal, nothing is recorded and you do not need to do anything here.
Third parties
In the app, the only third party that receives data is Google (Firebase Analytics), which processes the anonymous usage data described above. On this website it is Cloudflare, which hosts the site, provides Cloudflare Web Analytics, and stores our own event records as a processor on our behalf. See Firebase's privacy and security information, Google's Privacy Policy and Cloudflare's Privacy Policy. Apple processes purchases and (optionally) iCloud sync under Apple's Privacy Policy.
Your choices
- You can reset or disable the analytics identifier in your device's settings, or stop all collection by deleting the app.
- You can turn off iCloud sync for the app in Settings → [your name] → iCloud.
- You can turn off website measurement with the switch above, or by enabling Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track in your browser.
Data retention
Aggregated, anonymous app analytics are retained by our analytics provider for a limited period and then deleted automatically. The website event records described above are deleted automatically after 90 days. On-device and iCloud data persist until you delete the app or clear it from iCloud.
Your rights
If you are in the EEA or the UK you have the right to access, correct, erase and object to the processing of your personal data, and to complain to your local data protection authority. The website records described above contain no identifier that outlives your browser tab, so in practice we have no way to find "your" rows after a visit ends — which also means there is nothing about you left to hand over or delete. For anything in the app, or for any question about this, email hello@pocketsoundapps.com.
Children
Guitarium is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above.
