What is Guitarium?
Guitarium is a guitar practice app for iPhone and iPad that turns fretboard, chord, scale, theory and ear training into short, focused drills. You pick your topics and a session length, and the app runs you through bite-sized reps that earn XP and build a streak. A tuner, metronome, chord library, tab player and progress dashboard are built in.
Is Guitarium free?
Yes. The free tier includes all 15 practice drills, the chromatic tuner, the metronome, the full chord library with capo mode, the chord analyzer, the scale viewer, the tab viewer and the progress dashboard. The only limit is practice time: 15 minutes a day across every session. No account, no card and no sign-up are required.
What does Guitarium Premium add?
Premium removes four limits. There is no daily practice cap, so you can practise as long as you like, with each session capped at 60 minutes. Explore mode lets you jump straight to any drill you have unlocked. Smart Sessions build a practice set around your two weakest topics. Full song controls unlock tempo, transpose, section loop and the track mixer.
Which devices does Guitarium run on?
Guitarium is a universal app for iPhone and iPad and needs iOS 18.6 or later. There is no Mac, Android or web version. The tuner listens through the device microphone, so it works on iPhone and iPad only. Everything else behaves the same on both, and the layout adapts to the larger iPad screen.
Does Guitarium work offline?
Yes. Every drill, the tuner, the metronome, the chord library, the scale viewer and the progress dashboard run entirely on the device with no internet connection. Your practice history is stored locally and never leaves your phone. A connection is only needed to start or manage a Premium subscription through the App Store.
Do I need an account to use Guitarium?
No. Guitarium has no sign-up, no login and no user accounts. You open the app and start practising. All progress, XP, streaks and session history are saved on your device, so there is nothing to create and nothing to recover. Premium is tied to your Apple ID through the App Store, not to an account with us.
Can I import my own guitar tabs?
Yes. Guitarium imports .gp tab files and shows them in a scrollable, zoomable viewer with a playback cursor that follows along. Viewing and playing an imported tab is free. Premium unlocks the practice controls on top: change the tempo, transpose the piece, loop a tricky section between in and out points, and mix individual tracks.
How do the drills unlock?
Drills unlock as your practice streak grows while you play Arcade, the default session mode. Most open at a 5-day streak, and the longer ear drills open at 2 days. All 15 drills are free once unlocked, and there is no paid drill tier. Arcade is the only mode that raises the streak; Explore replays what is already open.
Does Guitarium include a tuner and a metronome?
Yes, both are built in and always free. The tuner is a mic-based chromatic tuner covering standard tuning plus Drop D, DADGAD, Open G and Open E, with a needle that turns green in tune. The metronome has tap tempo, 4/4, 3/4 and 6/8 time signatures, subdivisions, and a gradual BPM ramp that nudges you faster.
Is Guitarium on the App Store?
Yes. Guitarium is live on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, running iOS 18.6 or later. Downloading is free and the free tier needs no account, no card and no sign-up. Premium is an optional subscription bought inside the app through Apple. Questions go to hello@pocketsoundapps.com.
